Baby due today!

I can't believe that today was the day baby was supposed to arrive, but instead we've got to snuggle him for 2 weeks now!

Here he is:  Tate William Price

He decided to make his arrival early morning on September 18th.  The contractions I'd been having for months weren't coming as often so I'd decided that he probably wasn't going to come early.  Then at 2 am I got up to use the bathroom and my water broke!  I wasn't sure at first if that was what happened, so I called my mom.  She said that it definitely sounded like my water had broken, so she started the drive up to stay with Collin.  Greg and I tried to get things packed.  I had a list of things to do before the baby came, and there were still 5 or 6 things left on it.  One of those was to pack our hospital bag.  I wasn't having contractions, so we hung out til my mom arrived about 45 minutes later.  Then Greg and I headed to the hospital.

Because my contractions were irregular, they started me on a low dose of pitocin.  It helped kick start the contractions.  Then it was a waiting game.  I was dialated to 3 when we arrived, and slowly progressed.  The nurse upped the dose of pitocin to increase the contractions twice.  After the second time, I was ready for the epidural.  That went much smoother than with Collin and it worked more efficiently.  The third time the nurse upped the dose, I was having contractions every 80 seconds, and they were spiking rather high.  Tate's heart rate was dropping a lot, so they turned off the pitocin.  The contractions kept coming regularly but not as intense.  Around noon the nurse checked my cervix, and I was dialated to 9+.  She told us that my doctor was just finishing with a surgery, and then he'd be in.  They got the room all set up for delivery and at 1 pm the doctor showed up.  It was go time!

My contractions slowed down and were coming every 3-5 minutes.  I pushed for about 45 minutes and then little Tate arrived at 1:46 pm!  This birth was SO much better than my first.  My doctor helped a lot, and I could feel the progress I was making while pushing which helped motivate me.

Tate is such a good baby.  He picked up breastfeeding super fast, is a good sleeper, and rarely cries.  He was 6 lbs and 2 oz, and 18.5 inches long.

Collin has been a great big brother.  He loves Tate and wants to help with anything!  He loved having Dad home for a whole week, and took full advantage of the extra attention.  Lately though, he is realizing that he doesn't get as much attention as he had before.  He will get frustrated when I tell him that I can play with him after I'm done feeding Tate (or whatever I need to do.)  We expected it though.  Collin was spoiled being the only kid for 3+ years and getting Mom and Dad all to himself.  I am glad, though, that he loves little baby Tate.

A few days after my milk came in, Tate and I had breastfeeding down.  Then I noticed that he would get a build up of mucus after eating, but there wasn't anything in his nose.  Then he started gagging and choking on the milk (and mucus I'm guessing).  So at the 2 week check up I asked and the doctor thinks its acid reflux and Tate might have an aversion to dairy products.  I'm lactose intolerant so I don't eat a whole lot of dairy anyway, so I wasn't sure if the doctor was right.  But its gotten worse, so I'm going to cut out dairy and we're going to start him on some medicine to help.  Hopefully it does!

He is a super easy, sweet baby.  We just love him!  OH and his two week stats:  7lbs 2oz, 19.75 inches long, 34.6 cm head - He's about 25th percentile.

Just for fun, here's the boys' baby pictures along side mine and Greg's.
