A BAD online shopping experience

Oh goodness, I LOVE to shop online!  It's all right there at my fingertips.  I can quickly move from shoes, to clothes, to kitchen supplies, to furniture.  And I find tons of deals.  I love getting deals.  I'd almost say I'm addicted to getting a deal... almost.  So when I found this site, urbanog.com, I thought I'd struck gold!  The boots were cheap and lets be honest, I know I'm gonna want new ones next season anyway, so why pay oodles?  I even found a 20% off code online to use.  What I didn't do though was check the reviews for this site, or pour over the sizing specs with a fine-toothed comb.  And I got screwed.  (Not the good kind either.)

I ordered two pairs of boots (I saved more that way... grrr...) just after Christmas for a total of about $53, and anxiously awaited their arrival.  They came in about a week.  I was so excited when I pulled them out and looked them over.  First disappointment:  they looked cheap.  Now I've bought cheap boots before (think Forever Young Shoes) and they didn't look this cheap.  Like, I could have pieced some together from craft foam and they would have looked similar.  But I reminded myself that I got these at a really cheap price.  You get what you pay for.   I slipped my first foot into the boot and zipped it up.  Fit pretty good.  A little tight on the ball of my foot, but not unbearable.  I then slipped on the other boot.  Well I shouldn't say slipped.  It was more like jammed, wiggled, stuffed, forced my foot into the other boot.  And then attempted to zip it up.  Nope.  Not happening.  "Poop," I thought.  Oh well.  That's why I ordered two.

I went straight for my "big" foot this time, and once again, I couldn't zip it up.  I was sad, and disappointed.  Here I'd found this "great" site and it wasn't working out for me.  I thought I'd just bought some small ones, so I went to the site to see their sizing specs and compare the ones I got to others on the site.  It said that the boot shaft of one pair was just under 15" and the other just over 15".  I looked down at my calves, thinking that I'd never thought they were fat before.  I grabbed my measuring tape and measured them.  One was 14.5 inches, and the other 14.75 inches.  Hmmm...

Next I read, re-read, and re-re-read the return policy.  By now I was beyond frustrated with the company and myself.  The return policy states:

We want you to love what you ordered. If something is not right, let us know. We have an unconditional return policy.

Returns must be in its original, UNWORN condition, within 30 days of purchase. Refunds are subject to a 15% restocking fee if Free Shipping was issued on the order. Please include the reason for the return. Shipping fees are non-refundable for returns. You MUST include the original invoice along with the returned merchandise in order for us to process your return quickly. Please remember to include the order number on your return label.

Please use protective box or wrap with thick paper. Item(s) received unwrapped or without the original box will be subject to a 15% restocking fee.
Customers are responsible for the return shipping.
UrbanOG.com recommends you to ship your package with insurance using a trackable shipping method.

I now laugh at the opening line.  Yeah they have an unconditional return policy, you just have to pay for it.
So I hadn't gotten free shipping, so the 15% didn't apply to me.  I just had to pay to ship them back and make sure it was within 30 days of purchase.  (Not delivery mind you.  How swindled you'd feel if your purchase arrived 2 weeks or more after your purchased...)  I packaged them all up, triple checked that I'd included all the forms, and then mailed the package back a week before my 30 days were up.

After shipping them off I considered writing some reviews about how I had to pay $10 bucks to try on some boots, but didn't because I'm pretty good-natured and trusting.  I thought maybe the company would make it right somehow.  Today I got an email saying they'd received my return and I would be refunded $32.  Huh?  I know what you're wondering, because I was wondering it too:  Why only $32?  Well I asked.  And the reply I got was:

Dear Valued Customer,

According to our returns department, the package was sent back after 30 days therefore there was a 15% late fee applied. If the package was postmarked within the 30 days as you stated below, please send the receipt with the date for your return so we can adjust your refund accordingly.
Thank you
Best Regards,

UrbanOG

Of course I lost the receipt and didn't buy the insurance/confirm delivery because I was trying to minimize the cost!  And Ha!  Valued Customer.  If I was actually valued, then the returns department would have CAREFULLY read the post mark and refunded my extra $16.  So now I've paid urbanog.com $26 to try on their cheaply made, wrong sized shoes.  Ooooh!  Oooooh!  And I'm valued.  Yes, I believe anyone that just gives you $26 for nothing would be valued.  Well done.
