The last Wednesday of Nov, Dec, Jan, and Feb was Free Day at the Hogle Zoo. We didn't find out about it until the last Wednesday of Jan, so we decided to go in Feb. It had snowed the day before, and was cold so we bundled up and went with our friends. The zoo is being renovated, so about half of the animals aren't available to see. Which is maybe why they had these free days...
We got there just after it opened. At first, I thought we should have waited so that the day could have warmed up a little, but there was almost no one there when we arrived. We didn't have to worry about crowds and our littles could get right up next to the exhibits. Closer to the end of our day at the zoo, attendance started to pick up. On our way out we noticed a bunch of buses and the parking lot was nearly full. I was glad we went when we did!
Here are the pictures:
| Collin all bundled up. He kept getting one hand stuck in his coat. |
| Collin and two friends checking out a monkey exhibit. |
| Collin LOVED the big elephant. He walked under, around, and behind it. |
| A monkey looking right at us! The kids were thrilled. |
| One of the workers brought the bird out and answered questions. Our kids were a little nervous, but I think they liked it. |
| Collin made a run for it here. The other kids were playing, and Collin ran out the back way! |
| All 4 of the kids checking out a tiger. |
| Austin (he's about 9 months younger than Collin) checking out the giraffes. Collin wasn't interested. Instead he turned the benches into a playground. |
| They still had a lot of energy and went running up the hill. |
| While the others checked out the big apes, Collin played at the elephant again. |
| And was then thoroughly entertained by trying to put sticks down the drain. |
It was a fun day at the zoo! I can't wait until all the construction is done. I'm sure it will be awesome!
